What do you know, Ken Rosenthal was way off again. The Rangers have reportedly dropped out of the Freddy Garcia minor league tight shoulder sweepstakes. Leading candidate at the time is the White Sox, Yankees and Mets are also rumored to have interest.

It was reported last week that the Rangers might have an interest in Freddy Garcia, the former Mariners and White Sox pitcher. This was reported by Jon Heyman (the same guy who said the Rangers were interested in Joe Crede) earlier this week. I don’t think this is a move JD is likely to make. He has said before he doesn’t want to block any of the younger players (like the Andrus/Young move) and it seems like even signing Garcia to a minor league deal could potentially block one of the younger arms from progressing. On December 5th, Jason Beck wrote on the Hot Stove Blog, that Garcia is suffering from tightness in his shoulder, rather than a biceps injury that was previously reported. His arm could potentially be ready to go in spring training, but is this the type of pitcher we want in Surprise come February?
